Sources
In english 101 a large part of the paper writing is sources. When writing an essay, facts and supporting detail are crucial. The most important thing to do is get solid sources and build your paper on them. This is very important as sources can provide as a cornerstone of the paper. When locating sources I always try to stick to scholary sources. This way i can assure the accuracy of that source. I also look for sources that have information related to what I am saying. That way, when I cite them in my paper, the flow isnt ruined. I find all these to be very important in writing a paper.

Kellogg's Article
The Kellogg's cereal company is thinking about laser etching their logo into every piece of corn flakes. They use a very small laser that doesn't change the taste one bit. But the reason that such a big company is doing this is to give the reassurance to consumers that they are truly eating Kellogg's brand name cereal. The company believes that doing this will increase their sales due to the fact that everyone knows the cereal they are eating is not an imposter. The numbers of corn flakes eaten in the world is quite large and the Kellogg company wants to convert all of the cornflake consumers to eat their brand.

Omnivore's 18&19
Chapter 18 of Omnivore's Dilemma is about hunting. It describes what needs to be done in preparation and delves into the mental aspect of hunting and killing. As someone who has been hunting, I could relate alot to the reading. I went through some of the same emotions and thoughts before and during my experience as well. When the reading was discussing how he got the gun and was just thinking about what he was going to do, I could relate. I went over to my uncles a month before we were going and he showed me all the safety information and we went out the range. It got me thinking about what I was actually doing and if I could actually go through with it. And coming to the actually day with me going hunting there was a mixed bag of emotions. Actually shooting the gun was a big step and killing an animal changes a person. I could relate greatly to this reading, it was a good read.

Omnivore's 16 & 17
The reading starts with a certain way of thinking. All eaters have a certain mindset when they set out to get food. For example, if a person is working out that day they might want protein or if they need potassium they would go for fruit like bananas. Life controls the way we think and they way we think controls what we eat. The reading continues in that humans are omnivores as we dont eat just meat or just vegetables. This also is a mindset that controls what we eat. It all comes back to letting our heads control what happens.
The next chapter refers to what we as humans eat. There are dilemmas no matter what you choose to eat. When eating meats you have the dilemma that some animal had to die for you to eat it. While when eating soley veggies you may not get the protein and other substances needed for your body. So what does one do? Is it truely ethical for an innocent animal to pay just so you can be healthy? That is a debate that will linger on for some time.

They Say, I Say CH.6-7
This reading of They Say, I Say was aout skeptics and proving why your writing matters. In writing it is important to prepare for what people with opposing thoughts will say. There will always be those who disagree and you need to be ready. For example, a good thing to do is think about flaws in your argument and how you can refute them. Another thing to do is say what the opposite argument is and tell why they are wrong. Both are very adequate. I found that this is most helpful in a persuasive essay. There is always an opposition to your argument which is why it is a smart idea to put in a paragraph solely for a refute.
Another thing that is cruicial in writing is explaining why what you have to say is important. If readers don't care about your topic or think that it isn't important then they wont read it seriously or maybe not at all. So what you have to do as a writer is explain why people should care. A good thing to do is provide facts.

They Say, I Say
In this reading the book discusses how to respond. The previous 3 chapters have been about listening to others however this chapter is putting the ball back in my court. As the book states you can take three sides, agree, disagree, or both. A very good example of this is in a persuasive essay. As a writer you need to declare what position you are early in a paper so that it doesn't drag on and is clear to readers. Something that comes with agreeing though is that you need to bring a new aspect to light, rather than just take the ideas and views of others.
The book also makes so that their is a fine line with "what they say" and "what you say". As a writer you need to clearly distinguish where other ideas end and your ideas begin or vice versa. An easy way to do this for example is to state another author's ideas then state your opinion on it. Then you can possibly add in ideas of your own and build off them.

English 101 1st Assignment
The first reading began with the book discussing that you must first listen then formulate your own ideas. When writing you should first do research on this topic to establish a good background. This way you can cut out some of the work by seeing what others have said and choose to base your writing off that. You could agree, disagree, or pick and choose from both sides.
Summarizing is another effective use of writing. In this you write in your own words while not using your own ideas or beliefs. In fact, when writing a summary, you might have to use some of the author's ideas and use them as your own even if you don't believe in them. An effective way to do this is using quotes. The best way to portray what an author is trying to say is to directly quote what they said. Keeping flow is important however so you want to try to mesh the authors words into your own to keep fluency. Citation and such is key to keep from plaigerizing.
